Is This A Good Time for Canada Customs To Go On Strike?

Can you imagine being without a contract since 2018? This is the reality facing CBSA employees after negotiations stopped in December 2020. Next week, the union representing CBSA employees will be holding a vote on whether to go on strike.

With the upcoming border reopening and current congestion at Canadian Ocean ports, the union could not have picked a more opportune time to push for negotiation.

For Canadian importers, this could be a further hardship. Disruption in product flow, skyrocketing ocean transportation costs, and now new anti-dumping duties, could all affect your business.

For consumers this means higher costs both now and down the road, as well as an empty shelf when you need a specific product. (Remember the toilet paper situation.)
